✝️How to turn God’s promises into reality
Why Believers Struggle to Benefit from the Word
By Bishop Jerry Pena, God’s anointed servant
“For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.”
Israel heard God’s promise of entering the Promised Land, yet many fell short because they failed to combine it with faith and obedience. The promise was there, but it remained unused.
It’s like receiving a prescription from a doctor. The medicine is good, effective, and proven. But if the patient never swallows it, the illness continues. Likewise, God’s Word must be applied—not just admired or memorized.
Steps to Activate God’s Promises
- Know the Promise
You cannot claim what you don’t know. God told Joshua:
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night…” (Joshua 1:8).
Take time to search the Scriptures. If you are struggling with fear, look up promises of peace (John 14:27). If facing lack, meditate on Philippians 4:19. Write them down and keep them before you daily.
- Believe the Promise
God’s Word only works when it is received with faith. Abraham is our example:
“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” (Romans 4:20–21).
When doubt creeps in, declare aloud: “God cannot lie. If He promised it, He will perform it.” Even if circumstances look opposite, faith chooses to trust God’s Word over feelings.
- Confess the Promise

Our mouth is the doorway for activating faith. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us:
👉🏼“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Jesus resisted Satan in the wilderness not by silence but by declaring, “It is written” (Matthew 4:4).
Each morning, speak God’s Word over your life. Instead of saying, “I’m broke, I’m sick, I’m defeated,” declare, “My God supplies all my needs” (Philippians 4:19), “By His stripes I am healed” (Isaiah 53:5), and “I am more than a conqueror” (Romans 8:37).
Put this in your spirit: The Devil is a liar.
- Act on the Promise
Faith without works is dead (James 2:17). The woman with the issue of blood believed Jesus could heal her, but her faith became active when she touched His garment (Mark 5:28–29).
If you believe God will provide, then give generously. If you believe God heals, then pray boldly. If you believe God forgives, then forgive others. Action makes faith complete.
- Wait and Persevere
Not every promise is instant. Hebrews 6:12 says, “Through faith and patience we inherit the promises.” Joseph received dreams at 17 but saw fulfillment years later after betrayal, slavery, and prison.
Don’t quit if you don’t see results overnight. Keep standing. Keep confessing. Keep believing. God is faithful to bring His Word to pass in His timing.
Reflection Story
A man once prayed for a job. Every day he declared Philippians 4:19. But he stayed home, waiting for an opportunity to come knocking. Another man prayed the same scripture but also applied for jobs daily. Eventually, doors opened, and he received employment. Both believed, but only one activated the promise by combining prayer with action.
Closing Encouragement
God’s promises are like seeds. If kept in the packet, they remain full of potential but produce nothing. When planted in faith, watered with confession, and nurtured with obedience, they bear fruit in your life.
Prayer Declaration
“Father, I thank You that Your promises are yes and amen in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). I refuse to let unbelief rob me. I choose to believe, speak, and act upon Your Word. Let every promise You have spoken over my life come to fulfillment for Your glory. Amen.”
